Where we are

Welcome to the Laboratory of Geodetic Engineering

Welcome to TOPO
Our core lecturing and research activity are in Geomatics engineering. Based on the scientific frame-work of Geodesy this is one of the key information technology of the 21st century that integrates acquisition, modeling, analysis, and management of spatially referenced data. These data are used for a wide range of applications, such as surveying, positioning and navigation as well as digital imaging and surface scanning and other remote sensing techniques or more globally as an input to geographical information systems (GIS) databases. Sincerely,Prof. Bertrand Merminod

The TOPO lab excels in various research competencies, among them:

   ► Geodesy, surveying and cartography
► Development of algorithms in field of geodesy, navigation and mobile-mapping
► Integration and calibration of sensors, modeling and estimation
► Development in the field of satellite positioning, inertial navigation, high-precision surveying and monitoring
► Transfer of technology to industry

These competencies are exercised in numerous projects. Further information can be found in our research section.
  NEWS

► The book : Géopositionnement et mobilités (GPS, EGNOS et Galileo) has been published by the multimedia centre at the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM). PY Gilliéron is co-author of the book and talks about the potentials and challenges of geopositioning services.

► Jan Skaloud, from the TOPO lab, was nominated by the journal GPS World one of the 50 world's most influential scientists in the field of satellite navigation. Read more.

► Two TOPO's students have been awarder at the 2009 ION GNSS student competition.
1 Stephane Guerrier, MSc 2008 with TOPO. For his paper entitled: Improving Accuracy with Multiple Sensors: Study in Redundant MEMS-IMU/GPS Configurations.
2 Philipp Schaer and Yannick Stebler (both PhDs at TOPO) for their paper entitled: Applying In-flight Accuracy Estimation for Airborne Lidar Data.
